About
Erin Emme recently defended her PhD at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is now a post-doctoral research associate with CU Boulder in the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Department. Her research interests involve aerosol-climate interactions and atmospheric chemistry, with a specific interest in climate intervention strategies (i.e., marine cloud brightening, mixed phase cloud thinning, and cirrus cloud thinning) and polar regions. Erin hopes that her research can help us better understand climate change and how we can adapt to the coming challenges we are set to face in the future. She also has a special interest in scientific communication, especially in relation to climate change, hoping to make her research accessible to people outside her field of research.
Erin has a wide range of computational modeling experience, from larger models run on High Performance Computing (HPC) systems, such as a global chemical transport model (GEOS-Chem) and a coupled earth system model (the Community Earth System Model), to smaller scale models that can be run on a local system (i.e., ENVI-Met and HYSPLIT). These tools are vital for our understanding of climate change and how it impact us as humans.
